Soon to be released, our 2009 white wines. The Sandihurst Waipara Riesling is a wine in similar style to 2008 wine, a low alcohol wine with balanced moderate sweetness and vibrant acidity, and the Sandihurst Waipara Pinot Gris, is a dry full flavoured wine with the accent on texture. Both of these wines are the first releases from my own vineyard which makes it doubly exciting.

Ive posted this photo here as a reminder to myself that the sky was in fact blue at some point during the summer. We have definitely had more than our fair share of grey and wet this year. Grapes-wise they are behind by around 10 days at this stage of the season here in Canterbury. We will be looking to the (hopefully) ever reliable long dry autumn that Canterbury usually experiences. Bring on the debate! Interesting article in the New York Times by Eric Asimov with comment on New Zealand Pinot Noir in relation to a recent tasting. The article kicks off under the heading 'NZ Youths with promise' and leads by saying our Pinots have come a long way in the last 10 years and seem to show improvement at every new tasting.

Claims from a leading academic in Australia recently that the national vineyard area should be reduced by somewhere between 20-30% in order to sorrect the current demand-supply imbalance and focus the countries efforts into reclaiming a higher price point for its wine. A quick photo update on the progress of our Guner Veltliner - growing well and now up to the fruiting wire. No major issues there so looks like we will have one cane down for next year and a small crop to experiment on.
