A quick photo update on the progress of our Guner Veltliner – growing well and now up to the fruiting wire. No major issues there so looks like we will have one cane down for next year and a small crop to experiment on.

Also held recently were three varietal symposiums and these were a great success – promoting Syrah, Pinot Noir and the Aromatics. These events are essentially promotional in outlook, with hundreds of world media in attendance, but also included comprehensive and comparative tastings together with discussion of our future,  industry issues and promotion, and direction in a global sense.

In a Twitter-styled nutshell , Syrah, Pinot Noir and our Aromatics seem to be in rude health, punching well above their weight and overdelivering on all counts. Sustainability, regionality, branding and image were all issues. Of course in a country where Sauvignon Blanc is so influential there was talk of this varietal too – a plea not to cheapen the NZ brand overseas and avoid a repeat of the so called ‘Sauvalanche’ which would have a detrimental knock-on effect for other wines.
